Jim Dempsey Memorial
James Peter Dempsey
Born in Brooklyn, New York on Jan. 11, 1948
Departed on May 7, 2004 and resided in Laredo, TX.
Do Not Grieve for James P. Dempsey.
Rather–rejoice in his memory and the many lives that he has touched. Dempsey was a loving father, an adored lover, a decorated hero and much more. Not a soul alive who had the privilege of meeting him was indifferent to him. So, his family asks that you take those memories of him and learn the lessons he had to offer. Above all, live every day to the fullest and take nothing for granted.
James Dempsey’s lists of accomplishments are too long to list. He was a soldier, loyal to his country in every way, decorated with three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star for Bravery and so many more. He was founder of Halo Flight, ever intent on saving and enriching lives. He was an active Mason and enjoyed Civil War re-enactments- an active member of the 69th Division of the Irish Brigade as well as the 6th Texas Division. He was a father – not only to this writer but to every child that he met, teaching always to be true to yourself, and at the same time not to take yourself so seriously – for when it comes down to it, who else can you truly laugh at? He survives in all of our hearts and leaves behind his daughter, Rachyll Dempsey, Psy. D., his partner, Hillary McAllister, his siblings, many nieces and nephews and thousands of friends. We wish to extend an invitation to everyone who would like to celebrate his life and memory.”

Hector Herrera,
Sorry about your brother Humberto passing away. My sincerest sympathies for you and your family.
You may be gone but not forgotten.
When I see a bird fly over to the sea
And the sun in the sky is shining warm and free
And when I feel the wind blow cool over me
I think of you, think of you.'
Remembered with love on the second anniversary of our parting.

I've met a truly good man with the reading of a Cat from Hue. I'm so glad Doc survived Viet Nam and has spread his love and kindness to so many others. You have my deepest sympathy for losing such a wonderful man. Thanks for sharing. Alice Ann
I read about James 'Doc' Dempsey in Jack Lawerence's 'The Cat from Hue' and was amazed by his courage in the face of the danger of losing his life. I was so happy to hear that he was not a victim of Vietnam and was able to have a loving family to share his humor with. My condolences to all who knew him.
I have only known Doc dempsey through John Laurence book 'The Cat From Hue'. As i read the final concluding pages of the book i wished Doc had survived the war and the records on KIA were mixed up...so i followed up on the books website and was glad to see that Doc survived the war and continued to have a wonderful effect on peoples lives. I wish him well in the after life...God Bless.
My deepest condolences to the Dempsey Family.
Jim helped to save many lives here in south Texas with his establishment of HALO FLIGHT Air Ambulance. And his legacy continues to this day. With the closing of rural hospitals Jim saw a need for an emergency service to cover the large south Texas area. So Jim started an air ambulance service in Falfuras Texas. When I came to know Jim I was flying sick children from all over Texas to our hospital in an airplane, a long and hard process. Jim offered his helicopter service and drew plans out on a napkin. Jim’s Legacy was borne over 600 sick children are transported to Corpus Christi and countless other traffic accident victims are saved by HALO FLIGHT every year. Jim Dempsey still saves lives in Texas.
To the Family of Jim Dempsey thank you for sharing this wonderful hero with all of us.

Jim's death took everyone by surprise. The minute he passed on I got the phone call from his coworker. My mother Pamela and Jim dated for about 7 years. Jim was practically married to my mother and he was my father in my heart. I lived with Jim in New York for almost a year. That's when I met Hillary for the first time. She had a cute dog with her. I had a hard time dealing with their (My mother and Jim's)breakup. They both met wonderful people and moved on. While my little sister and I couldn't stand seeing my mother and Jim seperated. It felt like a divorce. It's taken me this long to write something in his guestbook. I'm still trying to cope with his death. I can still smell his cigars and hear him singing the unicorn song. He always came up with silly songs to make trips go faster. Jim and I had great memories and I look forward to seeing him in Heaven. I will always see him as my father and I love him dearly.
Love,

Jim was a great guy, who tried to do alot for the Jersey City Police department and 911. He will be greatly missed by the many who knew him here. They broke the mold.
